It was found to be an androgen receptor agonist, with gene-selective properties, which led the researchers to suggest that the compound be classified as a SARM. YK-11 is considered one of the strongest SARMs out there. It acts as an inhibitor (blocker) of myostatin. Myostatin is a protein that is released primarily in skeletal muscle to limit muscle growth. Studies show that there are individuals with a genetic mutation that limits the production of myostatin, and therefore are stronger and more muscular than those with normal amounts. YK-11 inhibits myostatin production in muscles by binding to the androgen receptor. From there, it induces them to create more follistatin, which in turn also limits myostatin levels, thus allowing muscle growth beyond genetic limits.
